There was a time in my life when I didn’t know if peace was something I would ever feel again.
I was living inside a marriage that slowly changed the way I saw myself, my life, and my future. These were difficult years—years of trying to understand what was happening, trying to hold things together, and trying to find my way back to myself.
And somewhere in the middle of it all, I found shamanism.
I didn’t find it because my life was peaceful, I found it because something inside me was searching for a different way of living, a more authentic, peace filled, joyful way of living.
Shamanism didn’t make the difficult things disappear, it didn’t give me a life without loss, grief, fear, or uncertainty (well eventually it did, but the early stages were about overcoming the fear and uncertainty.) But most importantly what it gave me was a way to walk through those painful experiences without losing the deepest part of myself.
It taught me to listen differently—to nature, to intuition, to the quiet places within me.
It taught me that healing isn’t always about going back to who you were before something happened, but instead it is about discovering who you are becoming because of it.
Eventually, my marriage ended in a way I could never have imagined. I lost him in a tragic motorcycle accident. Grief changed me.
There were questions I couldn’t answer and feelings I couldn’t explain.
And once again, the spiritual path I had been walking became something I could lean into, not as an escape from grief, but as a way of moving through it.
Over time, something unexpected happened.
Life became peaceful.
Not perfect. Not without challenges. But peaceful.
I began to experience joy in ways that felt different from anything I had known before. I learned what it felt like to be comfortable in my own life and, perhaps most importantly, comfortable within myself.
And then love came into my life again.
This time, it felt different.
I found a partner who is kind, gentle, loving, and safe. A relationship that doesn’t feel like something I have to struggle to hold onto. It feels like alignment.
Like two people meeting each other from a place of wholeness rather than trying to complete something broken.
When I look back at the woman I was during those hardest years, I don’t see someone who needed to be saved. I see someone who was learning how to find her way home, a woman who was discovering her strength and reconnecting with the wisdom that was always within her.
Shamanism became part of that journey of awakening.
It carried me through some of the darkest chapters of my life, but it also taught me how to recognize the light from within and all around me.
And that is the story I want to share.
Not because I believe my path is the path everyone should follow.
But because I know what it feels like to wonder if your life can ever become something beautiful after you’ve been through something painful, I now know that it absolutely can.
Sometimes your path doesn’t take you back to the life you thought you were going to have, sometimes life forces you to let go of what was so that it can take you somewhere much more aligned with who you were always meant to become.
In the service of love always,
Jen
