Sugar Got Ya Feeling the Blues: 5 Ways to Overcome Food Cravings

Uncategorized

Heya Gorgeous!

You know the feeling. The donut screaming your name on the break room table. The Ben and Jerry's calling you from the freezer. The warm chocolate chip cookies your daughter just baked, beckoning from the kitchen counter. The nachos eating away at your willpower as you binge on Netflix. Here they are again-the cravings!

We all have them, but do you know why, and what to do about them? Cravings have both physical and emotional components. The most common foods we crave are sugar, carbs, salt, chocolate and my fave cheese!

There was a time where I could gulf down a plate of nachos at midnight, it was my only time to decompress with no kids, no cell phone, and no demands!

So let's chat about some helpful tips to overcoming them, and what truly causes them to strike.

4 Causes of Cravings:

Emotions

Cravings come from the region of the brain that is responsible for your memory, pleasure and reward. Food is an intricate part of ancestral history. Food means...

To-Do List Got Ya Stressed: Here's My Top 5 Tips to Free Up Time and Get More Done

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one” .-Mark Twain

Have you ever wished for a few more hours in the day? Why is it that some people seem to get everything done effortlessly and others feel that time constantly eludes them?

The secret to managing your time well isn’t working more hours.

It is about prioritizing the important things and learning to use the time you have more efficiently and effectively.

The secret is working smarter, not harder.

Some of us, by nature, organize and get tasks out of the way before we relax, while others of us play first and work later. It is important to first recognize which type you are and whether your style is allowing you to have the life you really want. Maybe you are super-organized at work, but burned out because you don’t know how to make time for yourself. Maybe you...

Whole Food Healthy Eats On The Go!

My definition of fast food! Throw it all in a blender and drink up!!

I felt like a spaz today running from one place to another, but that's every day so what's new. What I really want to talk to you about is making the choice to put your health first, even when you have no time.

There was a time that instead of choosing to fuel my body with life giving, energy sustaining foods that supported my health goals,  I would pull through the closest fast food joint, and order a burger and fries, with a diet coke, or stop and pick up a pizza on the way home.

I felt like I had no other options, or truth be told I was just too tired to do anything else.

What I have found through my weight loss journey is that we all have to make a choice, and those decisions come with consequences; good or not so good.

We really are not victims in our lives; we are change makers. So if you want better health you have to choose better health, but you can't just stop there right?...

No time for healthy food? Then make time for dis-ease.

No time to make healthy meals

No time to meal plan

Going through the fast food place is easier

I don't get home until late

The kids have sports practice

These are all the reasons we give ourselves for letting the food we eat be poor in quality, and lacking necessary nutrients that will give us the optimal health we crave. When our body is getting what it needs, sugar cravings are a thing of the past and 3:00 crashes are no longer the norm. Instead we have amazing energy to keep up with the demands on our time and energy.

I weighed over 200 pounds. I was insecure and spent a fortune trying to get thin. I was running my kids around to sports practice and extra curricular activities that left me feeling like I had no other option than to stop and get drive thru fast food. I was feeding my kids cheeseburgers and fries, followed with a side of sugar a.k.a soda. Even getting a salad for myself and trying to be "healthy" wasn't eating optimally and I sure as heck wasn't feeding...

Getting Picky Eaters to Eat Their Vegetables

Teaching my kids how to eat healthy, involving them in learning how to make healthy dishes and making health a priority in my home is one of the most rewarding feelings as a Mother.I know that I am helping my kids fight disease and setting them up for a future of disease free living. Not only that, but they will make health a priority for the rest of their lives and pass this on to future generations.

It wasn't always like this though, I was raised on hot dogs and      macaroni and cheese. Mom hated vegetables, Grandpa hated     broccoli and Dad didn't think a meal was a meal without meat and potatoes. This is how I grew up, so this is what I passed on to my children.

It wasn't until I decided for myself that I didn't want to be fat, depressed and in pain anymore and needed to make a change. I educated myself about what good nutrition was, I explored nutrition as a way to help my children with ADHD and Asperger's. I got support to make...

What I learned about weight loss from Martin Luther King Jr.

Uncategorized

Since it is Martin Luther King day I thought it would be fitting to reflect on what Dr. King taught us about facing what seems like the impossible, to accomplish life changing dreams, and tie it into your weight loss success.

Dr. King played a pivotal role in the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin and ended racial segregation at schools, at work, and at public facilities.

I wonder if he knew what he was capable of when he started out on this journey? I wonder if like you and me, he often felt like he wasn't getting where he wanted to go fast enough.

What if he gave up?

Can you imagine? Ummm no thank you!! Thank goodness he did not give up and kept pushing forward for a more beautiful world.

His belief in taking action, "even if you don't see the whole staircase" and another great quote: “If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.” ...

Are you living a life you love ?

Uncategorized

As I sit here and look around at the mess that is taking over my house I think, “Oh Lord what have I gotten myself into”. I homeschool three of our four children, and have the blessing to be able to say we graduated our eldest daughter out of High School and into College (yippee). Along with homeschooling comes the job of everyday mommy duty and I run a successful network marketing business. Let me let you in on a secret...I wouldn't have it any other way. I LOVE my life....well maybe not the piles and piles of laundry, but it is worth it!

Today I have found a way that I can share my passion with others, do something for myself AND be home with my kids. But it wasn't always this way, I used to think I had to make a choice, either be a stay at home mom OR work a job with a boss (yuck!).

I hope as you read my story you find yourself in my words and find hope that you too can live a life you love.

Just 8 years ago I was a successful Advertising and Marketing Executive. I...

Back to School Balance and How to Avoid The Overwhelm

With School back in session it means early morning motivation, breakfast rush hour, sports practice, homework, dance lessons, children’s programs, Bible studies, youth groups and that old familiar feeling of overwhelm. You may not feel it just yet, but I assure you it is on its way.

So what can you do to avoid the over-whelm? The simple answer is find your balance. Balance is a sticky subject among many people though. We have careers, partners, children, family commitments, charity work, classes, hobbies, worship time – plus, big desires to improve our health. How can one possibly balance so many things?

I’m going to let you in on a little secret here: You can’t.

Balance. Is It A Myth?

“Harmony” is an easier goal than balance.

Harmony means everything is co-existing in a spirit of cooperation. But whatever you want to call it – harmony, balance, or “fitting it all in” – there is a secret to doing more of what you...

Self Care and Self Love... What is that ?

"It has been so long Im not even sure what self love is."

Did that beginning sentence catch your attention, I know for me it did? I can recall a time where, I was 70 pounds overweight, riddled with pain, exhausted, overwhelmed, depressed and uptight with very little patience for my children.

I sacrificed on sleep, exercise, quiet time and my own needs, so I could care and serve everyone else. (See more of where that lead me below.)

"I was the typical woman with a servant’s heart, raised to believe you had to sacrifice yourself in order to care for others."

My mom didn’t intentionally teach me this; I just watched her give her all to the family without ever asking for her own needs to be met.

Does this resonate with you? Most of my clients like you, have a nurturing heart, and care deeply for their loved ones and want to be sure their children get the BEST care possible.

We are raising children, building careers, caring for loved ones, serving in...
